Indentured Servant in the American Colony


Indentured servant - An indentured servant is a labourer under contract to work (for a specified amount of time) for another person or a company/corporation, often without any monetary pay, but in exchange for accommodation, food, other essentials, training, or passage to a new country. After working for the term of the contract (traditionally seven years) the servant was then free to farm or take up trade of his own.

American Colony - The American Colony was a Christian utopian society that formed in Jerusalem in 1881.

John A. Treutlen - John Adam Treutlen (1734-1782)arrived in Colonial America as an indentured servant and rose to become a wealthy merchant and landowner. He was a leader in Georgia of the American Revolution and helped write Georgia’s first constitution.

Transylvania (colony) - Transylvania was an attempt in the 1770s by the Transylvania Company to found a new American colony, by buying land from American Indians. The first settlement was "Boonesborough" (now in Kentucky), in 1775.
