Still room maid - The still room maid is a female servant who works in the still room, the functional room in a great house in which drinks and jams are made. The still room maid is a junior servant, and as a member of the between staff has the unenviable position of reporting to both the housekeeper and the cook, and in the event that the two do not get along, is often a pawn in their rivalry.

Kitchen maid - A kitchen maid is a junior female servant in a great house ranking below a cook and above a scullery maid. An experienced kitchen maid is an assistant cook; the position may be compared to that of a line cook in a professional kitchen.

Lady's maid - A lady's maid is a female personal attendant who waits on the lady of the house. The position is somewhat analagous to a gentleman's valet, but not as high-ranking as a lady's companion, who is a retainer rather than a servant.

Between maid - A between maid (also called hall girl, particularly in the United States) is a female junior servant in a large household with many staff. The position is largely defunct in the 21st century, as few households can afford great retinues of servants with the elaborate hierarchy of the past.
